About the Workshop

This July 7th through 13th, the Design Innovation Workshop series and the MIT Tata Center for Technology and Design and MIT Media Lab are holding the first DIy event: Engineering the Eye, with the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, and the Perkins School for the Blind, Boston.

The workshop will bring together students from across India to work closely with clinicians (Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Vision Scientists) over seven days to develop fully functional prototypes which address both preventing blindness and enabling people with existing vision loss to lead fuller, more productive lives. The underlying goal is to encourage the culture of Interdisciplinary research in Innovation. Students will have the latest prototyping technology at their fingertips (3D printers, 3D scanners, Arduinos, etc) and will be guided by a rock star team of instructors from the MIT Media Lab and Tata Center and foremost experts in vision from LV Prasad Eye Institute. The event will culminate with an exhibition of the students' accomplishments, open to the public and press on July 13th, 2013.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until June 28th 17:00 hrs IST.

There is limited space available at this event and the application window will be closed early if capacity is reached, so please apply ASAP.
