| Art Gallery
At LVPEI, we recognise that scientific achievement becomes worthwhile only when it complemented by achievement in the arts. One of the best things about the sense of sight is that it allows us to see and know all that is beautiful about this world. In appreciation of this, we have turned almost the entire institute into an art gallery.
Our artist-in-residence Mr Surya Prakash has put together a diverse collection of canvasses by contemporary Indian artists, all of which are exhibited in the hallways and waiting areas of all six floors of the institute. The sixth floor has a permanent art gallery, which also hosts art exhibitions from time to time. The grounds, too, have their share of art-stone and metal sculpture created specially for LVPEI by some of the best sculptors in the country.
Sisir Sahana, LVPEI's other artist-in-residence, is well known for his glass sculptures or relief work in glass. After trying his hand at stained glass, he shifted to haptic glass friezes, creating everything from scratch, even the glass itself. He says in India this kind of work is only possible in his workshop at LVPEI.
