To create excellent and equitable Eye care systems that reach all those in need.

Strategic Action Plan: Vision 2012

Against the backdrop of organizational and environmental change, we recognize the need to constantly re-think our progress and make changes in our course that best address new and emerging needs in Eye care in the developing world.

To bring such a vision to bear on planning for growth in the individual operational areas within LVPEI, and to consider any alteration in our paths, a brainstorming exercise took place on January 10 and 11, 2008, involving about 25 persons from across senior management, representing all areas of activity. The task was to consider growth areas over the next five years and to set long-term direction.

MV

Participants discussed issues in five broad areas:

  • Patient Care
  • Education
  • Management and Organizational Development
  • Research
  • Community Health

Groups were charged with identifying five key objectives that
would be the focus of activity in the short and medium term,
with specific goals and a road map for the next five years.

Our key goals for the next five years are to achieve

  • Branding as a cutting edge institute
  • Higher quality service and education
  • Breakthrough research and products
  • Impact making community eye health programs
  • The ability to catalyze and affect Eye care globally

In each area of activity, specific overarching goals have been framed that set a clear direction and emphasis.

In patient care, we will achieve

  • substantial improvement in the quality of service delivery at all levels
  • improvement in patient as well as provider satisfaction
  • optimal utilization of time, energy, resources and expertise to augment patient care volume

In education, we will

  • achieve recognition as a premier centre of education in all areas of Eye care planning, management and service delivery
  • share expertise and experience in eye health across the developing world
  • create the human resources needed to eliminate avoidable blindness and manage vision impairment

In research, we will

  • seek to understand and address selected diseases and genetic conditions, and
  • focus on generating and applying new knowledge in areas such as nanoscience and gene delivery

Every project undertaken will be translational in nature - starting from the needs of the patient on the bedside to the laboratory bench and ultimately to the community.

In community eye health, we will apply our experience in primary eye health to

  • build a stronger and wider network of Eye care service delivery across India and other parts of the world
  • share expertise by consultancy, education and planning
  • advocate at all levels for improved systems of Eye care
