Short Term Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology

Short-term pediatric ophthalmology trainees will focus on pediatric cataract and glaucoma cases mainly. They will also get an insight into pediatric retinal cases with particular emphasis in the area of retinopathy of prematurity, as also orbital diseases and ocular tumours. Diagnosis of childhood eye diseases will be a key element in the course. Management strategies, medical treatment and the use of diagnostic tools effectively will be part of the training module.

Duration: Three months

Session commences: January, April, July and October every year.

Places available: One in each session.

Eligibility: Practicing ophthalmic surgeons with experience

Selection Procedure: The applicant should have the potential to develop the subspecialty service at his/her location.

Application procedure: Applications must be accompanied with curriculum vitae, a copy of the applicant's MBBS and PG diploma or certificate, as well as a letter from the sponsor.

Clinical Training
Observe and assist consultants in the out patient department in all the sub specialties of the eye in all pediatric cases. Also assist the consultant in examination of pediatric cases under anesthesia.

Microsurgical techniques
Observe and assist in all pediatric surgeries based on the level of competence of the trainees as evaluated by the concerned consultant. There is no opportunity for hands-on surgery.

Evaluation
Each fellow will be given a training module for keeping a record of each case that he assists in or whenever he performs surgery on his own. The concerned faculty will evaluate the fellow's performance at the end of the posting.

Stipend and leave benefits
No stipend or leave benefits will accrue to the trainee.
