Education

A key component
of LVPEI is development of human resources and the Institute
is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre
for training eye care professionals from all over the world.
The broadest aim of our educational program is to help prevent
blindness wherever possible, and rehabilitate persons with
incurable blindness or low vision to make them functionally
independent and fully contributory members of society.
Since its inception the Institute has trained over 8000 ophthalmologists,
optometrists and paramedical personnel at all levels of specialization
in ophthalmology and eye care. As a tertiary eye care centre,
we work on a daily basis at every level of eye care, treating
an average of 600 patients and performing 70 surgeries every
day.
Our Education Centre trains eye care personnel at all levels;
- Post-doctoral ophthalmology fellows and practicing ophthalmologists,
- Optometrists,
- Ophthalmic technicians,
- Nurses,
- Bio-medical technicians and
- Eye care administrators
The Centre has, till date,
trained over 8000 personnel in all subspecialties and across
all functional levels. We continually upgrade our
curriculum, teaching methodologies and materials, thus
ensuring highly focused and up-to-date training programs.
LVPEI uses cutting edge equipment and facilities so that eye
care professionals imbibe the best training possible.
Trainees and fellows in every sub-specialization of eye care
and eye health come here from all over India and abroad.
While we have a vast range of program and training
facilities, the core of each program is intensive training
with clear targets and specialized experience. The primary
emphasis is on hands-on clinical experience, but our
educational programs also have a strong component of
research-based training. This is facilitated by our
laboratories, which are at the forefront of global and
critical studies in eye disease and eye care.
As part of our commitment towards community eye care and
public health our training is structured with relevance to
local and regional needs.
