Overview
At LVPEI education and training
are given special importance. This arises from our recognition
of the fact that the imbalance in the distribution of health
care across the world is largely due to imbalances in the
distribution of not only material, but also human resources.
In order to ensure effective, accessible, and adequately
distributed health care of international standards across
our country, committed and well-trained health care professionals
are needed to facilitate the dispensation of high quality
health care in areas where it is most needed.
Effective eye care does not depend only on doctors, but
equally on a wide range of related eye care workers - optometrists,
opticians, ophthalmic nurses and technicians, bio-medical
technicians, eye care administrators, and rehabilitation
professionals.
Therefore, we train eye care professionals across all the
subspecialties of the eye and at all different levels of
eye care.
Education at LVPEI
LVPEI's Education Centre offers long-term and short-term
fellowships in various subspecialties of the eye, ophthalmology,
a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology, and a fellowship
in optometry. Our Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry offers
education program for a bachelor's degree and training
for ophthalmic technicians.
LVPEI offers training program in low vision care, vision
rehabilitation, biomedical engineering, and community eye
health, while training eye bank technicians, ophthalmic
nursing assistants, and eye care managers. The Institute
also trains operation room technicians and nurses, patient
counsellors, and housekeeping personnel.
The LVP-Zeiss International Academy for Advanced Ophthalmic
Education offers a two-week, hands-on comprehensive
