About the Workshop

• The Ocular Surface Workshop (OSW) is an exclusive, focused, intensive and yet informal and interactive meeting for practising cornea specialists and trainees seriously interested in ocular surface disease and its management. Each year the workshop brings together renowned ocular surface experts and enthusiasts from across the globe to share their experience and knowledge.

• This year’s workshop will be exclusively focused on the myriad aspects of Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation (SLET), the revolutionary Made-in-India technique of limbal stem cell transplantation.

• It is an unique opportunity for all participants to learn from one another, irrespective of eminence, seniority or background. The program includes clinical updates, live ocular surface surgical demonstrations, clinic-based case discussions and wet-lab sessions.

• SLET addresses limbal stem cell deficiency by transplanting healthy limbal tissue to the surface of a diseased eye for in-vivo expansion of epithelial cells. SLET does not require a clinical-grade laboratory for ex-vivo cultivation and can be performed with minimal donor tissue, making it an attractive alternative to a Cultured limbal epithelial transplant (CLET) or Conjunctival limbal autograft (CLAU).

• Long-term clinical studies have shown similar outcomes between SLET and CLET and SLET results have been reproduced by surgeons at multiple centers, in different geographies. Because SLET is a relatively new procedure, there is an opportunity to standardize quality training for ophthalmic professionals around the world.
