Hyderabad's global eye banking leader celebrates Silver Jubilee

LVPEI celebrated the silver jubilee of its Ramayamma International Eye Bank (RIEB) on 27th June 2014. In the past 25 years, RIEB has cumulatively harvested nearly 50,000 corneas and conducted 25,000 sight restoring transplantation surgeries to corneal blind patients, the largest number done by a single centre in the world.

RIEB is the biggest eye bank in Asia and the developing nations, and a SightLife 'Global Centre of Excellence'. The RIEB's phenomenal growth and emergence as a global leader in eye banking is a remarkable and inspiring success story for a developing country like India where traditionally, there has always been a lot of pessimism about organ transplantation.

The Silver Jubilee was marked with a Scientific Program in the morning and Commemorative Program in the evening. The guests included Dr. Paul Dubord, Chair, SightLife, USA, Mr. Monty Montoya, President & CEO, SightLife, USA, Dr. L Narendranath, Director, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and members from Late Mrs. Ramayamma's family.
