Kathiyas can drive again!

Kathiyas

Kathiyas Sowlen Ali Hatmi (21) from Oman loves driving her car, her passion for driving is in stark contrast to her shy demeanor and bashful smile. Her brother Ali believes that it was her frequent drives in the dry desert conditions that caused itchiness in her right eye. She often complained of redness and pain with watering. Treatment at the local hospital helped for a while. Then she started losing her vision. She was referred to Al-Nahdha Hospital as a case of non-healing corneal ulcer, but the doctors told her that she could not be operated upon in Oman. She would have to go to India for treatment.

At LVPEI a slit lamp examination revealed a corneal infection with unstable and reduced vision. Fortunately, her left eye was not affected. After a corneal transplant, her eyesight improved and she could see objects, not visible to her before the surgery. And, of course, what brings a smile to her face is that she will be able to drive again!

Her brother holds the institute in high esteem; he says, “The doctors are very systematic in their diagnosis of eye problems. They try to approach and solve the problem methodically, unlike in Oman, where they are more random in their approach.”
