Decennial Celebrations

The Bhubaneswar Campus celebrated its tenth anniversary on 16 January 2016. Present on the occasion were the

Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik and Shri Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Information & Public Relations. Over the last decade, LVPEI Bhubaneswar has notched up more than 7 lakh outpatients (22% free of cost) and 77,000 surgeries (34% free of cost). The various programs scheduled included:

  • Investiture ceremony of Ophthalmic Nurses, Vision Technicians and diploma programs in community eye health.
  • Display of paintings of eminent international artists.
  • Alumni meet of optometrists, retina and pediatric faculty.
  • 6th Bijayananda Patnaik Memorial Lecture delivered on 15th January by Prof Harminder Singh Dua, Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Nottingham, UK on ''Steering the ship from studentship to leadership'.
  • Workshop and CME The Engima of the 6th Layer, 15-16 January, conducted by the Cornea and Anterior Segment Service.
Long Term Ophthalmology Fellows Graduate

9 long term ophthalmology fellows from Kallam Anji Reddy Campus and 3 from LVPEI Bhubaneswar graduated on 31 December 2015.


Awards & Honours

Prashant Garg has been invited by American Academy of Ophthalmology to author an AAO 'Focal Points Module' on Parasitic Keratitis. Focal Points is the Academy's flagship monthly publication, with each issue providing a walkthrough on a specific ophthalmic topic.

LVPEI Bhubaneswar won the First Prize for its gardens among 'Teaching and Training Institutes' at the Garden Competition 2016 conducted by the Garden Lovers' Association, Bhubaneswar.

Excellence Equity Efficiency
A Slew of Activities by Rehabilitation Services:

GMR Varalakshmi Campus organized a Yoga Workshop on 31 December 2015 by Sri Sankar Rao, a leading yoga trainer, for 40 clients of the vision rehabilitation centre at GMR Varalakshmi Campus.

The 18th ‘Rehab Volunteers Meet’ on 2 January 2016 was a thanksgiving for about 35 volunteers for their time, talent and treasure during the past year, besides seeking their suggestions for the coming year.


The 24th meeting of the Parents’ Association of Visually Impaired (PAVI) on 9 January 2016 planned activities for 2016 and had an interesting quiz on awareness regarding disability issues for about 40 participants.

A Vision Screening program was conducted for 58 students of Spurthi School for Special Children, Gun Bazar, Secunderabad on 8 January 2016.


2nd Annual meeting of 165 Alumni of LVPEI Optometrists (ALO) held at KAR Campus; 23-24 January.

State-wide 'Rapid Assessment of Visual Impairment’ Survey on population aged above 40 years, in collaboration with Govt of Tripura and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services, initiated in January 2016.

was inaugurated by Sri Kothapalli Kishore and his wife Meena on 25 January 2016.

More Women Patients Served in 2015 - LVPEI’s rural eye care services had 52% female outpatients and 57% surgeries for women in 2015. The focus on women patients is owed not just to gender sensitivity but to the higher prevalence of blindness among women. Altogether, LVPEI’s rural eye care services served 18,075 outpatients and performed 2,148 surgeries in 2015.

Looking Beyond the Eye 2016 - a CME on Eye and Systemic Diseases – was organized on 24 January 2016 at the Arjun Waney Eye Centre, Berhampur, Odisha.
