With an aim to provide solutions to visual impairment in rural Odisha, the Indian Oil Centre for Rural Eye Health was inaugurated at LVPEI's Bhubaneswar Campus on 19 May by Sri Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Honorable Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.

The Operation Eyesight Universal Institute for Eye Cancer's Chemotherapy Unit - Ray of Sunshine, was inaugurated on 18 April at LVPEI Hyderabad.

Two new Vision Centres (VC) inaugurated: 134th VC inaugurated in Guntur District, AP. It is funded by Latter-day Saint (LDS) Charities, USA and Lions Club International Foundation. 135th VC supported by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and LDS Charities inaugurated at APSRTC’s bus station in Vijayawada.

Ramayamma International Eye Bank (RIEB) crossed the 30,000 mark for the distribution of transplantable tissues to eye surgeons across the country in the month of May 2016. The Tej Kohli Cornea Institute team matched the record breaking spree on 29 June by conducting 19 transplant surgeries in a single day across the network.

Ms Margaret Keane, President and CEO, Synchrony Financial along with other officials handed over a cheque of Rs 600,000 and donated a Maruti Eeco Van to RIEB.

Two very complex surgeries - an ophthalmic plastic surgery and a corneal transplant surgery - performed at the LVPEI’s secondary centre in Mudhole, Telangana.

Mr YS Chowdary, Minister of State, Science and Technology & Earth Sciences, visited the research facilities at LVPEI Hyderabad on 20 June.

A tactile audio painting “Famous Monuments of India” by 60 employees of Synchrony Financial and their activity partner Anybody Can Paint, was inaugurated at LVPEI Hyderabad’s vision rehabilitation department on 29 June.

Students clients of rehabilitation services at LVPEI passed their grade 10th to 12th examinations with flying colours.

LVPEI Hyderabad campus celebrated its 29th Anniversary on 1 June. The day is celebrated as Patient Care Day as the institute saw its first patient on this day in 1987.


Established in 1987, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is a not-for-profit organization. Over 1.97 crore patients served; 50% of the services provided free of cost regardless of the complexities of the surgery.
