94th Vision Centre
Mallavarapu Venkatappaiah and Manikyamma Vision Centre was inaugurated on 29 May 2013 at Lingala Village, Mandavalli Mandal, Krishna district. It is supported by Prof. Ramakrishna Rao, retired professor IISc Bangalore, and Founder Society for Energy Environment and Development (SEED), Hyderabad, and his family members, and LDS Charities, USA. The centre was inaugurated by Dr. K. Satyanarayna,
retired Director of Medical Education, Government of AP and currently Director Vijaya Health Centre, Secunderabad. Other dignitaries included eminent persons of Lingala village, Prof. Ramakrishna Rao, his family members, and K. Shyamala, Executive Director, SEED.
Rehab's Integrated Summer Program
On 4 June 2013, the Dr PRK Prasad Centre for Rehabilitation of Blind and Visually Impaired organized elocution, essay writing in Braille or using assistive technology, mimicry, coloring, singing, fancy dress, and chess events for their visually challenged children, much to the delight of their parents and mentors. The event was supported by Mrs. Varsha Kulkarni, a volunteer at the rehabilitation centre .
Rehab Workshop on Communication Skills
Dr. PRK Prasad Centre for Rehabilitation of Blind and Visually Impaired in collaboration with Microsoft organized a workshop on 'Personality development and communication skills' for the visually impaired children and young adults on 21 June 2013. A guest lecture by Mr Jonapalli Prabaker, soft skills trainer, on 'Positive thinking' added value to the program. Microsoft gifted each of the 74 participants in the age group of 12 to 30 years with a gift.
Eye Health Program at A P Legislative Assembly
LVPEI conducted an Eye Health Program for the members of the AP Legislative Assembly at the Assembly premises from 17-21 June. 2013. 75 members of the Assembly and 385 staff members were screened, and 257 spectacles prescribed of which 35 were for MLAs.

  LVPEI 's 26th Anniversary
The 26th anniversary was commemorated on 1 June 2013 with the staff recalling happy patient stories in video format that moved the audience. Two humorous skits livened up the program.
IJCAHPO Accreditation for
Ophthalmic Assistant Program
LVPEI's Ophthalmic Assistant Program, the vision technician training program conducted by the institute's Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry, has been accredited by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO).

Ramachandra Guha

Padma Bhushan Ramachandra Guha, an Indian historian and writer with diverse research interests, spoke on 'The Indian Democracy's Midlife Crises' at the Silver Jubilee Public Lecture on 19 June 2013.
Vision Screening at Orphanage
A team of Optometrists together with students of the Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry conducted a vision screening program on 26 May 2013 for Sishu Vihar, a state run orphanage in Hyderabad. 124 children as young as a month old to 6 years of age were screened.
Summer Project for School Boys
Two middle-school students did their summer projects for 4 weeks this May under Dr. Shrikant Bharadwaj, Head, Visual Optics Lab and Dr. PremNandhini Satgunam, Head, Low Vision Rehabilitation Lab. Ujwal Mantha, IX standard, Glendale Academy Institute, worked on understanding how blurred vision affects depth perception, while Siddharth Senthil, VII standard, Gitanjali Senior School, Begumpet, worked on studying how visual illusions can trick the judgement of size of objects (the Muller-Lyer illusion). The boys made excellent presentations of their respective projects to a highly appreciative faculty that included their proud moms Dr Padmaja Rani and Dr Sirisha Senthil.

Mohsin Eye Bank Collects 100 Tissues
Mohsin Eye Bank at the GMR Varalakshmi Campus crossed a century in tissue collection. The 104 tissues comprised 60 from Hospital Cornea Retrieval Program (HCRP), 36 corneas from voluntary donors and 8 through the collection centre.
Memorial Symposium for Dr Kallam Anji Reddy
In a befitting tribute to the life and work of Dr Kallam Anji Reddy, the founder chairman of Dr Reddy's Labs, Hyderabad, a symposium was held on 11th June. The speakers were Dr Reddy's close associates and his family members who recalled the great virtues of the scientist-entrepreneur.
ORBIS-India Partners Meet at ICARE
LVPEI's International Centre for Advancement of Rural Eye care (ICARE) organized the first ORBIS-India partners' meet at its Kismatpur Campus, 17-18 June 2013. Around 28 ORBIS India partners and staff members participated.
