From the Visitors Book

Dear Sir (Dr Sangwan),

The way I was received, seen and reviewed at LVPEI was something I experienced for the first time in my 59 years. I find no words to express my feelings…the word 'thanks' is insufficient to express what I mean. I saw your untiring endeavors for all the patients visiting LVPEI, which is a milestone for others to follow. Your efforts and initiative will take this institute to a position above all.

From Uganda with Hope

The Honorable Mr Henry Muganwa Kajura, Deputy Prime Minster of Uganda flew into Hyderabad on March 22, 2011, hoping that his eye problems would be solved at LVPEI. With his physician
Dr Tendo Nsereko by his side, this illustrious son of the soil told us of his dream to rebuild

his beloved country by assisting the very able President Yoweri Museveni.

Born in Masinda in western Uganda, Mr Kajura studied at the Makereve Constituent College of the University of London, graduating with a degree in Economics and Political Science, followed by a Master's from Oxford University and postgraduation in Economics and General Administration from the University of Wisconsin. Among his several distinguished appointments under the colonial British government was a posting as Under Secretary in the East African Colonial Services at Nairobi, and stints at the IMF and Bank of England. He was instrumental in setting up the Central Bank of Uganda and the East African Development Bank, and also served as CMD of the Uganda Commercial Bank at Kampala. He left the country during the political upheaval and returned only when President Museveni won the free elections. He won a seat from Masinda and has served in the government since 1989, the last 10 years as Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr Kajura had a macular hole in the retina in the right eye. He was seen in the clinic by our retinal specialists and scheduled for a vitreo-retinal surgery in an attempt to close the macular hole. The operation was successful!

Dr Raja Narayanan examining Mr Kajura

Mr Kajura came to LVPEI a few months later for the removal of the silicone oil. Post-surgery, a fundus examination showed his attached retina with the hole in the right eye closed. He commented, "I am very satisfied with the treatment and the professional way

I was taken care of at LVPEI". In a meeting with Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Chair, LVPEI, he expressed a wish to set up a similar institute in Uganda.
