The Bhosle Gopal Rao Patel Eye Centre, Mudhol, Adilabad district, organized a World Diabetes Day (WDD) program at the Primary Health Centre in Kuntala village. The guests included Zilla Parishad Chairperson Mr J Ashok, Mandal Parishad President Mr Ravi, Dr Mukesh, Kuntala Sarpanch Mr Gajjaram, and diabetes specialist Mr Gangadhar. The program began with an awareness meeting on diabetes and related diseases. Mr Ashok said he would provide spectacles free of cost to people with refractive errors. Later a screening program was conducted, in which 246 people were examined. Of these 80 were identified with cataract, and 120 with refractive errors. A total of 116 people were examined for diabetes of which 21 were identified with the disease.
The Kuchukulla Ramachandra Reddy Eye Centre, Toodukurthy, Prakasam district, organized an awareness program and rally in Nagarkurnool mandal. The chief guests were Mandal Parishad Development Officer Mr Bala Shanker and Mandal Education Officer Mr Narsimha Rao. About 400 schoolchildren and teachers from seven schools attended the program. Ms Hemalatha, Nagarkurnool Vision Technician, spoke about diabetes and its effects on the eye.
An awareness program was conducted at Swarna Bharat Eye Centre, Nellore. Patients from the Primary Health Centre, dental hospital, diagnostics centre and schoolchildren from bridge schools in the Swarna Bharat Trust attended the program.
The Seshanna Chennawar Eye Centre, Adilabad, organized an awareness program and rally in Jainur village. The opening of a new Vision Centre at Bela coincided with the program celebrations. Present on the occasion were Larry and Toni Lyerly from the Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), USA, who are supporting the establishment of 10 Vision Centres in the district.
