Giridhar Pyda received his M Phil and doctoral degrees in Sociology from the University of Jabalpur. In the past he has worked with two research organizations - the Centre for Public Policy Studies and the Centre for Social Science Research on Leprosy. He has been associated with LVPEI since 1996 and was involved in projects like the Andhra Pradesh Eye Disease Study (1996-2000) and Refractive Error Study in Children. He has independently handled a major project ‘Community Assisted and Financed Eye care’ for over four years.

Dr Pyda is actively involved in community eye care projects and is currently coordinating for the Pediatric Ophthalmology Learning & Training Centre (POLTC) project. His main area of interest is qualitative research in planning, monitoring and implementation of community-based eye health projects on prevention of avoidable blindness.
