Training Programs

The persons involved in the provision of low vision care are either ophthalmologists, optometrists or rehabilitation professionals. LVPEI recommends that the appropriate persons should be identified at each level of service delivery, so that the training programmes can be structured accordingly.

LVPEI has been conducting training programmes in low vision care for eye care professionals for several years. These programmes were designed in collaboration with Lighthouse International, New York; Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai, India supports these programmes while EyeSight International, Canada supports the long-term programmes.

The Education Centre's future plans include a master's programme in low vision and a master's programme in rehabilitation science.

LVPEI is now reaching out to a larger audience in India by offering short courses in low vision care for ophthalmic societies, eye care centres and optometry schools and collaborating with the government and non-government organisations in offering training programmes in low vision care. Similarly, programmes are being designed for training eye care professionals associated with hospitals all across Malaysia and the Malaysian Association for the Blind.
