Dr Ashik Mohamed is currently the Head of Ophthalmic Biophysics Lab at LVPEI Hyderabad. He received his medical degree from Madurai Medical College in Madurai and his masters in Medical Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai. He was later awarded his doctorate in philosophy from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney.

Ashik is actively involved in experimental microsurgery, biometric, optical and mechanical characterization of ocular tissues, including the cornea and crystalline lens, and characterization of visual photosensitivity thresholds in human beings. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications ( and a book chapter on the mechanobiology of the human eye to his credit. He serves as a Reviewer for reputed journals such as European Journal of Ophthalmology, Experimental Eye Research, International Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Journal of Ophthalmology, BMJ Case Reports, Molecular Vision, Scientific Reports and Translational Vision Science and Technology .

Dr Mohamed is an active member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), has been appointed to serve the ARVO’s Global Members Committee for the period 2018–2021 and has been selected as a Mentor for the ARVO Global Mentorship Program. He has been honoured with the 'UNSW Young Alumni Award' and is an Elected Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) in recognition of significant contribution for the advancement of Medical Sciences.
