Dr Brijesh Takkar graduates with Bronze Medal from the AAPPO Academic Development Mentorship Program

Dr Brijesh Takkar, Faculty at the LVPEI Anant Bajaj Retina Institute, has successfully completed the Association of Asia Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO) Mentorship Program and was honored with the Bronze Medal by Professors Lam (Hong Kong), Ruamviboonsuk (Thailand), and Sharma (India).

Through the program, Dr Takkar strengthened his academic development and built collaborations across the Asia-Pacific region. Under the guidance of a senior mentor from Duke-NUS, Singapore, he developed a focused five-year career plan to advance diabetic retinopathy control.

His Bronze Medal ranking was based on the quality of his career plan’s SWOT analysis and his self-initiated project, the 'Diabetic Retinopathy Microbiome Study' (DRMS–India), a large-scale effort expected to generate valuable insights for the field. AAPPO organizers commended the project, noting that it is 'huge and important, and will generate useful data' to advance vision sciences in India and the world.
