Dr Saumya Jakati, Associate Pathologist at LVPEI, has been selected to receive the 2025 ARVO Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship for her research titled 'Deciphering the proteomic landscape of conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma for biomarker discovery and therapeutic target identification.'
Research focus: This research aims to identify and validate proteins and signaling pathways in conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma for diagnosis and disease prognostication.
Why this study matters: Conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most common ocular surface cancers of the elderly in countries closer to the equator. Understanding the functional role of oncoproteins in relation to the tumor morphology and clinical behavior is the primary focus of the project. Hence, the present study is undertaken to identify the differentially expressed proteins and discover cancer biomarkers.
The 2025 ARVO Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship aims to promote global scientific dialogue and innovative research by enabling researchers from developing countries to connect with well-established scientists and strengthen their research capabilities.
