Dr Vishal Raval (Consultant Ophthalmologist, LVPEI) specialising in Vitreo Retinal Diseases and Ocular Oncology was awarded the Col Rangachari Award at the 84th Annual Conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society held in Jaipur, earlier this month.
Dr Vishal received recognition for his research paper titled- 'Safety and efficacy of microneedle scleral patch for treatment of retinoblastoma'. His study aims to bridge the healthcare gap that exists in low-income, limited-infrastructure regions with restricted access to technologically advanced medical procedures. The research focuses on introducing a dissolvable microneedle patch placed on the eye that delivers the drug topotecan. This makes the approach less invasive and makes retinoblastoma treatment more accessible, therefore reducing the burden on patients and families, and improving outcomes (especially in resource-limited settings).
