The latest double-issue of the India International Centre (IIC) Quarterly features an article on the LVPEI eye health pyramid. Guest-edited by Prof Srinath Reddy of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the special issue covers a range of public health questions ranging from early child development, tuberculosis, nutrition, mental health to road traffic accidents. The theme for this issue is 'Public Health for All'.
The issue includes an invited article by Dr. Srinivas Marmamula, Dr. Rohit Khanna, and Tejah Balantrapu who give a whistle-stop tour of the history of eye care service delivery in India, culminating with LVPEI's Eye Care Pyramid.
As they note, 'The lack of access to such care is a key impediment to our collective well-being and prosperity. We will fall far short of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—or any such future global promise - if we do not tackle the fundamental issue of affordability and access. Vision impairment, and the lack of access to good-quality eye care, mirrors this reality.'
The double-issue on public health is published by the India International Centre, which is considered to be 'one of the country’s premier cultural institutions.' IIC is in New Delhi and 'is a place where statesmen, diplomats, policymakers, intellectuals, scientists, jurists, writers, artists and members of civil society meet to initiate the exchange of new ideas and knowledge in the spirit of international cooperation.'
