LVPEI is actively involved in framing guidelines for providing safe ophthalmic care during the COVID-19 pandemic. One such significant contribution was in helping frame guidelines for performing safe cataract surgery adopted both by the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) and the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology (IJO), applicable to all practice settings comprising tertiary institutions, corporate and group practices and individual eye clinics. These guidelines pertain to the triage of patients, use of personal protective equipment, and precautions to be taken in the outpatient clinics, operating rooms and during post operative care.
