In May 2025, the Liberia Eye Center (LEC) at JFK Medical Center, Monrovia, reached the remarkable milestone of 10,000 surgeries, all conducted to global standards. Half of these were performed at no cost to the patient, with 60% benefiting women and 8% children. Patients ranged from one month to 119 years old, and surgeries included cataract, glaucoma, corneal transplants, retinal diseases, and eye cancers. Increasingly, people of privilege are choosing LEC over overseas options, helping extend care to the underserved. LEC now serves patients from across Liberia and neighboring countries, ensuring no Liberian needs to leave the country for eye surgery.
