LVPEI-Liberia Eye Center marks World Glaucoma Week 2026

The LVPEI–Liberia Eye Center (LEC) housed at the JFK Medical Centre in Monrovia, Liberia observed World Glaucoma Week (March 8–14) with a public parade held under the theme ‘Uniting for a Glaucoma-Free World.’ The parade brought together key health stakeholders, and public leaders like Liberia’s former President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to highlight the importance of early detection and timely treatment of glaucoma to prevent blindness.

As part of the week-long observance, LEC has also held free eye screenings from March 8—14 to encourage public to get their eyes checked.

Dr Vicki Fayiah Sam, Head of the LVPEI–Liberia Eye Center, highlighted the growing burden of glaucoma in Liberia and urged the public to take advantage of the free screening services. She emphasised that early diagnosis remains critical in preventing vision loss from glaucoma, reinforcing the need for sustained awareness and proactive eye care.
