LVPEI Supports High-level meeting of WHO

LVPEI was the collaborating partner for the three-day high-level meeting of World Health Organization (WHO) member countries from South-East Asia on integrated people-centred eye care. Held at Hyderabad, the meeting was attended in person/virtually by Ministers of Health from the South-East Asia Region and experts from the government, private sectors, academia, civil society, and the international community. The attendees deliberated on the urgent measures needed to roll out a target-driven action plan to achieve Universal Eye Health in the region; they also visited the LVPEI campus to understand the ‘pyramid model of eye care delivery’ and its implementation. The meeting was inaugurated by WHO Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, along with health ministers/representatives from Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives and Timor-Leste. Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder, LVPEI, delivered a keynote on ‘Integrated people-centred eye care - the journey thus far in the Region’.
