ROP screening in city hospitals continues

In addition, to the emergency care provided currently at the LVPEI centres, our LVPEI ROP team of doctors continue to visit city hospitals in Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada for screening newborns for ROP. This was a very high risk challenging situation due to need to travel across the city, enter many hospitals and yet provide safe infection free care. The team quickly set up a special ROP-COVID-19 protocol along with national ROP specialists so that this critical care could be continued. Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is an eye condition that can lead to permanent vision loss in premature babies if not diagnosed and treated in time. The team also worked with police and state authorities of various states to facilitate urgent travel of babies to Hyderabad for receiving timely ROP care.
