Storytelling Workshop by LVPEI and Singapore Polytechnic

As part of the educational collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), the LVPEI team focusing on academic research organized an online workshop on storytelling-based reflective practices to strengthen clinical etiquette. This workshop was catered to optometry students from LVPEI and Singapore Polytechnic.

Narrative approaches are increasingly recognized in medical education for promoting deeper engagement with the emotional, ethical, and psychosocial aspects of patient care. This workshop used video-based clinical scenarios and guided reflection, and participants learned to apply the Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle to enhance soft skills during clinical interactions.

To help refine further sessions, the education team conducted pre- and post-session surveys and received valuable feedback on effectiveness of the workshop.

The Gibbs' Reflective Cycle, developed by Graham Gibbs in 1988, is a 6-stage framework designed to help individuals learn systematically from experiences, particularly in professional or clinical settings. It encourages structured reflection through Description, Feelings, Evaluation, Analysis, Conclusion, and Action Plan to improve future practice.
