The twelfth in the annual series of the “Antonio Champalimaud Symposium” was held at LVPEI on 3 February 2019. Professor Reza Dana of Harvard University, USA, delivered the oration lecture. Additionally, there were two special lectures by Prof Antonio Parreira, Clinical Director of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, Lisbon, Portugal, who spoke on new approaches to win over cancer, and by Prof K Srinath Reddy of the Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi, who spoke on cardiac diseases and the ways to address and reduce their incidence. A detailed research update from across the LVPEI campuses was shared.
A formal MoU was signed by Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder-Chair, LVPEI and Dr Leonor Beleza, President, Antonio Champalimaud Foundation for advancing the treatment of eye cancer. Also present was Mr Joao Botelho, Vice President and Prof Antonio Parreira, Clinical Director, Champalimaud Foundation. The collaboration will aim to seek innovative and pioneering eye cancer treatment solutions, and also allow for genetic, molecular and cellular analysis. Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown’s cancer program is the most advanced in the world.
