With the theme ‘Eye care everywhere’ a series of weeklong activities from 8-13 October 2018 were organized across the LVPEI network to mark the World sight day 2018.
School eye screening programs talks: Eye screening programs were organized in two Hyderabad based schools. 762 students were screened and 35 teachers were trained to identify eye problems in children. An awareness talk was organized for the students of the government school in Bheluabahal village in Sundargarh district.
Community eye screening programs: As part of the Chemtech community based eye health program, mega eye screening was organized in collaboration with Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh for the handloom weavers and their families in Machlipatnam, Krishna District, and 246 people were screened. Additionally, eye screening programs were organized by the secondary centre teams at Prakasam District in AP and Bargarh district in Odisha.
Eye health capacity building programs: In collaboration with Dr Reddy’s Foundation capacity building program was organized for the school community eye health workers. Additionally, training was organized for Asha health workers in Rajgangpur and Ballari districts in Odisha and Karnataka respectively.
Integrated children’s program: An integrated children's program supported by Lions Club International Foundation for children with special needs and their siblings was organized with the objective of creating a stronger bond between the two groups. Throughout the day the children participated in various competitions and fun activities.
Awareness rallies and talks: Awareness talks and rallies were organized in Prakasam, Madnapalle, Nellore and Visakhapatnam districts in AP; Nagarkurnool and Nirmal districts in Telangana; Bijadi village in Karnataka; and Rajgangpur district in Odisha.
