Advanced surgical care available at Secondary Centres

LVPEI’s constant endeavour is to make advanced eye care available closer to the doorsteps of the community - who need it the most. Thirty-six-year-old Tammisetty Pothuluraiah recently underwent an eyelid reconstruction surgery that involved harvesting a full-thickness skin graft from the area behind his ear. It is a complex and time-taking surgery, usually performed at tertiary centres. But, the needed surgical care was provided to him, closer to his home at the Edward & Soona Brown Eye Center secondary centre in Dhullipala, Andhra Pradesh. Dr Varshitha Vasanthapuram his treating doctor shares, 'His lower eyelid was completely avulsed due to the injury he sustained in a road accident. Pothuluraiah feared further damage to his eye and sight and was concerned about his appearance. He is doing well now. What is even more heartening for all of us is that we could save him the trouble and expense of travelling to a tertiary centre during these difficulty times.'
