The world is no more blurred, but beautiful

Seven-year old Mohammad Rehan till a few months back, was unaware of how beautiful the world around him was. His blurred vision had isolated this young boy from the joys of learning by exploring things on his own. He belonged to a humble family residing in Gouraram village in Mahabubnagar district in Telangana, and life was not easy for him and his family. On the advice of a well-wisher, he was brought to LVPEI's secondary centre at Kothur, where he was diagnosed with congenital cataract (cataract from birth). Cataract removal surgery for children requires high expertise and needs to be performed under anaesthesia. As part of LVPEI's constant endeavour to make advance eye care available even at secondary centres, Dr Ramesh Kekunnaya from the Hyderabad campus periodically visits the Kothur centre to operate such complex cases. Mohammad's parents were most relieved to know that they wouldn't have to travel any further for the treatment of their son. He was operated by Dr Kekunnaya and gradually his vision started improving. The little boy happily goes to school now and enjoys playing with his friends. To mark the Children's Day celebrations, week-long activities for raising awareness on early diagnosis and treatment for cataract in children were carried out across the LVPEI network, even in the most remote rural areas.
