The 15th Annual Champalimaud Symposium (supported by Champalimaud Foundation) had Prof Joshua R Sanes, Jeff C Tarr Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Paul J Finnegan Family Director, Center for Brain Science, Harvard University, Massachusetts, deliver the Champalimaud oration. He beautifully illustrated the role of cell types and gene expression in the mouse and human retina. The keynote lectures were by: Dr Vinay K Nandicoori, Director, CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, on ‘Evolution of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis’; Prof David A DiLoreto, Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology, Director, Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, on ‘The history and current state of neuroretinal transplantation’. Major highlights of various translational research work at LVPEI were also presented.
