The LVPEI Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus, Bhubaneswar, observed Glaucoma Awareness Week from March 8–14, 2026, under the theme ‘Early Detection is Key,’ with active participation from staff and clinicians. The week-long initiative focused on educating patients and the public about glaucoma, often called the “silent thief of sight”, and emphasised the importance of regular eye examinations.
The program began with an on-campus awareness activity where staff displayed placards carrying key messages on glaucoma, creating awareness among patients and visitors. From March 12–14, patient interaction sessions were held in waiting areas, led by Dr Avik Kumar Roy, Dr Mayank Rai, and Dr Asmita Pradhan. These sessions helped patients clear their doubts, understand glaucoma, its risk factors, prevention, and the importance of timely treatment.
To extend outreach, a glaucoma awareness radio jingle was broadcast in Odia and Hindi, covering an approximately 80 km radius and reaching over 1.3 million people in and around Bhubaneswar. Educational leaflets were also distributed across the campus to reinforce key messages.
The primary objective of the event was to spread awareness about glaucoma and prevent avoidable blindness through early detection and timely treatment. Through these collective efforts, LVPEI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting eye health and educating the community about the importance of protecting vision.
