The 14th Annual Champalimaud Symposium (supported by Champalimaud Foundation), organized on 6 February 2022, was an outstanding event. Dr Michael Chiang, Director of the National Eye Institute (NEI), Maryland, USA, delivered the Champalimaud oration and beautifully illustrated the role of AI in clinical medicine. The keynote lectures were by: Dr Friedrich Paulsen, Professor and Head Institute of Functional and Clinical Anatomy Friedrich Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany – on physiology of tear drainage into nose using anatomy; Dr Venkata VK Venuganti, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, India – on using microneedles as an alternative to syringe needles for ophthalmic drug delivery. Major highlights of various translational research work at LVPEI were highlighted by the faculty and external collaborators.
