Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons Inducts Dr Vickie Fayiah Sam as Fellow

Dr Vickie Fayiah Sam, Liberia’s first vitreoretinal surgeon, was inducted as a Fellow by election of the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS) at its 10th Annual General & Scientific Meeting and Convocation in Monrovia.

The fellowship adds to a career that has combined clinical practice, subspecialty training, education and leadership. Dr Sam completed fellowship training in retina and vitreous diseases. She heads the Liberia Eye Centre (LEC) at the John F Kennedy Memorial Medical Center, an LVPEI collaborative centre, where she works on delivering and developing specialized eye care.

Dr Vickie is also Acting Faculty Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at LCPS, where she trains and mentors the next generation of ophthalmologists. Her induction to LCPS reflects her continued contribution to strengthening specialized eye care and ophthalmic capacity in Liberia.
