Dr Saumya Jakati

Dr Saumya Jakati joined LVPEI in January 2019 as a Pathologist in the Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory. Following her medical graduation from Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar, she completed her MD in Pathology from the prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.
Her fields of interest include ophthalmic oncopathology and corneal infections. Her research focus is to understand the molecular pathogenetic and pathophysiological mechanisms of various eye cancers and the identification of biomarkers. She has several publications in various peer-reviewed journals and book chapters to her credit. She also enjoys teaching clinic-pathological correlation cases to fellows in both basic research and ophthalmology.
She has made several national and international presentations at the International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO), the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC), the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and has conducted ophthalmic pathology workshops at conferences at ISOO and the All India Ophthalmological Society's (AIOC) annual conference.
She won the ARVO Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship award for the year 2025, the Dr Kunaldeep Young Scientist Award in 2025 at the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM) – Telangana Chapter, and the Dr K S Ratnakar Memorial Award in 2022 for Best Innovation in Pathology at Hyderabad Academy of Pathologists.
She currently serves as the treasurer and board member of the International Society of Ophthalmic Pathology (ISOP), and the Secretary and founder member of the Indian Association of Ophthalmic Pathology (IAOP).
