Dr Prashant Garg is the Executive Chair LVPEI, succeeding the founder Chairman Dr Gullapalli N Rao. He is an internationally renowned leader in corneal infections, anti-microbial resistance and eye banking. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, both national and international, he is on the Boards of several international organizations, societies and scientific journals.

Dr Garg obtained his medical degree and specialization in Ophthalmology from the Ravindra Nath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur. His association with LVPEI dates back to 1996 when he joined the Institute as a Cornea Fellow. During the past 25 years, he has held several leadership positions in the organization including Director, Kallam Anji Reddy campus - the Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad; Director, Kode Venkatadri Chowdary campus in Vijayawada; Network Head of Eye Banking; and Network Head of Education. He also holds the Dr Paul Dubord Chair of Cornea.

Dr Garg is a consummate clinician-scientist and has been successful in securing funding from both national and international funding agencies, including the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council, Newton Bhabha Fund, the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He has over 190 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and has authored several book chapters. He has been invited faculty for prestigious international meetings and has delivered several named lectures.

In his spare time Dr Garg enjoys the company of his friends and family, and enjoys travelling and touring to new destinations. Helping patients suffering from blinding eye diseases inspires him, and seeing smiles on their faces satisfies him the most. In them, he sees the purpose of his life. He believes that this purpose brings with it the responsibility of training the next generation of eye care providers.
