[Vijayawada, 8 January 2024]: L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness, reaffirms its commitment to delivering exceptional and inclusive eye care services. With a vision to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote universal eye health coverage, LVPEI introduced HomeCare Eye Screening Services at the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary campus, Vijayawada, earlier last year.
LVPEI's HomeCare Service is designed to cater to individuals who face physical constraints when visiting the eye care centre, with a particular focus on the elderly and those with special needs. Good vision is fundamental to leading a meaningful and productive life, and LVPEI acknowledges its role in enabling 'Universal Eye Health Coverage for All.' Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the institute strives to make world-class eye care services available to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
Launched initially during the COVID pandemic to ensure continuity of care, especially for elderly patients unable to visit LVPEI centres physically, HomeCare has evolved into a crucial tool for extending quality eye care. The program emphasizes environmental sustainability by utilizing Electric Scooters with 0% CO2 emissions.
Beneficiaries of the HomeCare program can expect the following services within the comfort of their homes:
- A trained vision technician or optometrist will visit the patient’s home to conduct a comprehensive eye examination. This includes refraction, measurement of intraocular pressure, and capturing anterior and posterior segment images, all before a video consultation with the eye doctor.
- Video consultations with the eye doctor will take place via the ConnectCare platform (LVPEI’s teleconsultation platform).
- Advanced eye investigations, such as visual field tests (as recommended by the doctor), will be conducted.
- An e-report, which includes the spectacle prescription, will be generated.
- Patients will be referred to the main LVPEI campus for surgery, if advised by the doctor.
HomeCare services are available within a 20 km radius of the LVPEI Campus, ensuring that quality eye care is brought directly to the doorstep. For further information, please contact 0866-671-2000/20.
