August 18, 2025 Eluru, Andhra Pradesh: L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), a comprehensive eye health institute and a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness since 2001 is proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremony (Bhumi Puja), of its upcoming Kasaraneni Paripurna Lakshmi Eye Centre at the Kasaraneni Gopalakrishnaiah Campus in Vanguru Village, Pedavegi Mandal, Eluru District, Andhra Pradesh. The ceremony was performed in the presence of several local people's representatives and community members on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
This landmark project is made possible through the generous donation of 10 acres and 88 cents of land by Mrs Damayanthi Kasaraneni, retired IAS officer, and her family. Additional land for the access road was donated by her brother Mr Kasaraneni Vidyasagar and family. The Kasaraneni family, along with their friends and well-wishers, have extended their support to make, accessible and equitable eye care available to the people of Eluru district.
The Kasaraneni family handed over the land documents to Dr Prasanth Garg, Executive Chairman of LVPEI at the ceremony, in the presence of several local dignitaries, people's representatives and community members. All the people's representatives present at the ceremony extended their support and cooperation in making the Kasaraneni Paripurna Lakshmi Eye Centre a reality at the earliest.
A Catalyst for Eye Health in Eluru District
The LVPEI Kasaraneni Gopalakrishnaiah Campus, is envisioned as a secondary-level eye care facility that will make high-quality, inclusive, and comprehensive eye care accessible to over 200,000 people in the surrounding communities.
Key features of the project include:
- Futuristic Vision Centre (2025): A state-of-the-art virtual vision centre offering primary eye care services, tele-ophthalmology, and referral pathways to LVPEI’s tertiary centre in Vijayawada.
- LVPEI@Home Door-to-Door Services (2025-2027): Community-based programs involving trained eye health workers conducting house-to-house screenings, with special outreach for the elderly and differently-abled.
- Kasaraneni Paripurna Lakshmi Eye Centre (2025-2026): A 15,000 sq. ft. modern secondary-level eye care centre, designed for scalability, delivering clinical services, community screening, rehabilitation, innovation, vocational training, and support for local employment.
By 2030, the campus aims to become a catalyst in eliminating avoidable blindness in Eluru district, connecting seamlessly with LVPEI’s existing centres in Krishna and Eluru districts and its tertiary centre at Vijayawada.
Speaking on the initiative, Mrs. Damayanthi Kasaraneni said,
'My family and I are deeply committed to making quality eye care available to all, regardless of geography, background or economic status. We are delighted to be able to bring hope, health, and opportunity to the people of this region.'
