Bhubaneswar, December 23, 2025: The L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) and SLS Trust, Paharpur, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Shyam Charan Murmu Vision Centre, a primary eye care facility that will serve the local communities, and surrounding regions of Paharpur and Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. The centre, housed in an existing facility of SLS Trust, will open its doors to the public from February 1, 2026.
Odisha faces significant challenges in eye health, with populations from rural areas often lacking access to timely care. This vision centre will provide comprehensive vision screening, refractive error correction, spectacle dispensing, and early detection of eye conditions to communities in and around Paharpur and Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. Part of the LVPEI Eye Care Pyramid, this centre will ensure referrals to the LVPEI Bijayananda Patnaik Secondary Centre in Keonjhar, and the LVPEI Mithu Tulsi Chanrai Tertiary Care centre in Bhubaneswar for advanced care and treatment.
The MoU was signed by Dr Rajeev Reddy Pappuru, Vice-Chair, LVPEI, and Ms Itishree Murmu, President, SLS Trust, in the presence of Mr Subodh Kumar, Development Coordinator, SLS Trust. The Centre is named in memory of Mr Shyam Charan Murmu, late husband of the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
