Biography
Dr. Sameera Nayak is a vitreoretinal surgeon and clinician-scientist with special interests in pediatric retina, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), ocular imaging, and artificial intelligence–based retinal analysis. Her work focuses on imaging biomarkers, disease characterization, and innovative surgical approaches for complex retinal disorders. She completed her vitreoretinal fellowship training at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad India and subsequently pursued a clinical research fellowship at the Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, USA.
Dr. Nayak has received several national and international recognitions. Her notable honors include the Dr. Carl Herbort Award at the annual conference of the Uveitis Society of India (2013), the Dr. G. R. Reddy Best of APOS Award at APOS 2022, and the International Hero Award conferred by the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) in 2025, Pride of Andhra Pradesh Award from the Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmological Society and the Best Image of the Year Award from the Vitreo-Retina Society of India in 2024. She received the Best Free Paper Award at the 17th APVRS Congress held in Singapore in 2024, along with the APVRS-COPH-SSO Travel Grant.
She also serves as a reviewer for several ophthalmology journals, including journals of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Eye (London), BMC Ophthalmology, Advances in Ophthalmology, and Current Practices in Ophthalmology. She is on the editorial board for BMC Ophthalmology.
