Biography
Dr Srikanta Kumar Padhy completed his ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He subsequently worked as a Senior Research Fellow at AIIMS under the mentorship of Professor Atul Kumar before pursuing a two-year fellowship in vitreoretina, uvea, and retinopathy of prematurity at the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI). He currently serves as Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Anant Bajaj Retina Institute, LVPEI, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Padhy specializes in complex vitreoretinal surgeries, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, retinal detachment, ocular trauma, macular diseases, and inherited retinal disorders. He has performed more than 5,000 complex vitreoretinal surgeries and is known for managing challenging retinal conditions with advanced surgical and imaging techniques. He has played a pioneering role in advancing inherited retinal disease (IRD) diagnostics and care in eastern India and was instrumental in establishing the IRD Clinic at LVPEI, Bhubaneswar. His clinical work integrates advanced retinal imaging, molecular genetics, and visual electrophysiology for diagnosis and management of hereditary retinal disorders.
An accomplished clinician-scientist, Dr. Padhy has authored more than 95 peer-reviewed scientific publications and multiple book chapters in leading national and international journals. His research interests include genotype–phenotype correlations in inherited retinal diseases, retinal imaging, electrophysiology, gene therapy, and rare retinal dystrophies.
Dr Padhy has received several prestigious recognitions, including the IJO Silver Award 2024 for Best Research Publication, the ISCEV Travel Grant 2025 and 2026, and the Prof. Biswambhar Rajguru Oration Award 2025 for his contributions to inherited retinal disease research and electrophysiology.
Known for his patient-centric approach and evidence-based care, Dr. Padhy combines advanced diagnostics, surgical expertise, and compassionate counselling to provide comprehensive retinal care. Outside of work, Dr. Padhy enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, reading novels, and watching sports.
