Dr Saumya Jakati, Pathologist at the LVPEI Kallam Anji Reddy (KAR) Campus, Hyderabad was elected as member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC), for the Pathology section of Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), for a three year term from 2026 to 2029.

The AMPC members are elected through a voting process by ARVO members and are responsible for designing and curating the scientific content for the Anatomy and Pathology/Oncology section of the ARVO annual meetings. Dr Jakati’s responsibilities will include reviewing and selecting abstracts, develop the scientific program, plan annual meetings, coordinate interdisciplinary sessions, participate in committees, and represent pathology in scientific discussions and meetings.

Highlighting the importance of pathology in ophthalmic research, Dr Jakati noted that pathologists act as a bridge between basic scientists and clinicians, helping translate research into clinical applications. The role also contributes to advancing the understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms and supporting efforts to reduce avoidable blindness through research and collaboration.
