L V Prasad Eye Institute, GMR Varalakshmi campus expands capacity with Bharat Biotech Floor

Visakhapatnam, July 16, 2026: Spread across ~60000 sq ft, the Bharat Biotech Floor was inaugurated as part of the 20^th anniversary celebrations of the GMR Varalakshmi campus at  Hanumanthavaka Junction. The third-floor expansion, supported by Bharat Biotech International Limited, and henceforth to be referred to as the Bharat Biotech Floor was inaugurated by Mrs Suchitra Ella, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Bharat Biotech International Limited on July 6, 2026.

Mrs Suchitra Ella is also a member of the board of directors of the Hyderabad Eye Institute, the trust under which L V Prasad Eye Institute operates. Speaking at the inauguration of the Bharat Biotech floor, Mrs Suchitra Ella, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Bharat Biotech International Limited said that institutions such as the L V Prasad Eye Institute become a reality because of the vision, perseverance, resilience, executional excellence of great minds like Dr G N Rao and that they will be remembered for their contribution to the country.

The Bharat Biotech Floor will house;  

• Residential facilities for 70 Ophthalmic Allied Health Personnel (trainees), providing a safe and supportive learning environment
• Six guest rooms to accommodate invited speakers and guests
• Expanded inpatient services to add 26 beds, including dedicated facilities for post-operative recovery and emergency care, ensuring timely, safe, and comprehensive patient support
• Dedicated space for future OPD services on the second floor that will support the future expansion of five additional OPD clinics, with the capacity to serve approximately 300 more patients per day, significantly improving access to specialized eye-care services.
• Essential safety and support infrastructure including dedicated fire-escape staircases and accessible ramps, ensuring safe evacuation and easy movement of patients, staff, and visitors

This expansion is a strategic investment in long-term growth, ensuring continued excellence in training, patient care, and cutting-edge research at LVPEI.

 The unveiling of the plaque marking the inauguration was attended by Dr G N Rao, Founder Chair – LVPEI, Dr Prashant Garg, Executive Chair- LVPEI, Dr Rajeev Reddy, Vice Chair – LVPEI, Dr Virender Sachdeva, Campus Head – GMR Varalakshmi campus, Dr Avinash Pathengay, Network Director – Education and several members of the senior leadership team of LVPEI and members of the board of Hyderabad Eye Institute.
