Macular Hole Surgery and Eye Trauma Outcomes from Liberia Presented at LCPS Annual Meeting

Two ophthalmologists from the Liberia Eye Centre (LEC) presented case-series posters on macular hole surgery and periocular trauma at the 10th Annual General & Scientific Meeting (AGSM) of the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS), held in Monrovia on September 17, 2026.
Dr Vickie Fayiah Sam presented “Outcome of Flower Petal ILM Peeling No-Hole-Touch Technique with Fluid-Air Exchange for Large Chronic Full-Thickness Macular Holes: Lessons from Liberia.”
Dr Shayri Pillai presented “Clinical Characteristics and Surgical Outcomes of Periocular Trauma at a Tertiary Referral Hospital in Liberia: A Case Series.“
Both posters drew on clinical experience and surgical outcomes from Liberia. LEC, the L V Prasad Eye Institute’s (LVPEI) collaborative centre at the John F Kennedy Memorial Medical Center, said the presentations shared insights from its work in managing complex ophthalmic conditions and surgical cases.
The President of LCPS and the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee presented Certificates of Appreciation to both presenters in recognition of their academic contributions.
