Biography

Dr Swati Singh is an ophthalmologist at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, where she manages and treats patients with dry eye disease, ocular surface diseases like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and patients requiring eyelid surgeries. Her current focus of interest is improving tear production in patients with dry eye disease.

She completed her Master of Surgery from PGI, Chandigarh, in 2014, followed by a long-term fellowship in ophthalmic plastics and reconstructive surgery from L V Prasad Eye Institute in 2016. She further honed her skills under Professor Dinesh Selva at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia. She is an Alexander von Humboldt scientist at Friedrich Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany, and the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance Research Early Career Fellow.

Dr Singh was the first to demonstrate the in-vivo transcanalicular view of the valve of Rosenmüller, tear secretion from transplanted minor salivary glands, and innovative clinical techniques for the evaluation of the lacrimal gland and salivary secretion in patients with dry eyes. Her pioneering work in dry eye diagnostics earned her recognition as one of the top talents in India.

She was an active researcher in molecular anatomy at Professor Friedrich Paulsen’s laboratory at the Friedrich-Alexander University, Germany, in 2019, where she described for the first time the ‘immunopathological changes in the lacrimal glands of Stevens-Johnson syndrome.’

She has over 152 publications, delivered 66 conference lectures, conducted six instructional courses and four live-surgical workshops, and has been honoured with ten awards. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the mainstream ophthalmology journal Current Eye Research (CER), the youngest Editor-in-Chief across all mainstream ophthalmology journals.
