As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus in Bhubaneswar, the Prof C S Bhaskaran Endowment Lecture was held on July 3, 2026. The lecture, having advanced ophthalmic education and promoted global collaboration throughout the years, completed its sixteenth edition this year.

This year, the lecture was delivered by Prof Omar Mahroo, Professor of Retinal Neuroscience at University College London and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. His topic for the lecture, ‘Inherited Retinal Diseases in 2026 and Beyond’, shed light on the recent advances in the diagnosis and management of inherited retinal diseases, while also exploring emerging technologies, and ongoing research that is shaping the future of retinal care.
During his visit, Prof Mahroo also engaged with LVPEI’s retina faculty, fellows, and optometrists through interactive academic sessions. He discussed complex retinal cases, shared practical perspectives on retinal surgery and patient management, and exchanged ideas, thereby creating a valuable opportunity for learning and collaboration across the network.

Reflecting LVPEI’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Prof Mahroo also participated in the institute’s ‘Adopt A Tree’ initiative at the MTC Campus. By adopting a tree, he contributed to LVPEI’s ongoing efforts to promote a greener campus and reaffirm the importance of environmental responsibility.
The Prof C S Bhaskaran Endowment Lecture brought together retina specialists, ophthalmologists, fellows, optometrists, researchers, healthcare professionals, students, and faculty members, and other dignitaries to continue LVPEI’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence.
