Twenty years ago, the GMR Varakalakshmi (GMRV) Campus welcomed its first patient in Visakhapatnam. What began as L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s first tertiary center, has now turned into a sought-after hub for quality patient care across the north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.
The GMRV campus celebrated its anniversary with a look back on its journey and a significant step towards its future. On July 6, 2026, Mrs Suchitra Ella, Co-founder and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech International Limited [1], inaugurated the campus’s newly constructed third floor. Mrs Ella also serves on the Board of Directors of the Hyderabad Eye Institute, the trust under which LVPEI functions. Built with support from Bharat Biotech International Limited, the new facility has been named the Bharat Biotech Floor.

Spread across 60,000 sq. ft, the expansion consists of:
- residential accommodation for Ophthalmic Allied Health Personnel trainees
- guest house facilities
- expanded inpatient services
- extended space for future outpatient services
- other essential safety and support infrastructure
Institutions such as the L V Prasad Eye Institute become a reality because of the vision, perseverance, resilience, executional excellence of great minds like Dr G N Rao. They will be remembered for their contribution to the country.
The anniversary celebrations on July 7, 2026, were attended by Dr G N Rao, Founder Chair, LVPEI, Dr Prashant Garg, Executive Chair, LVPEI, several members of the senior leadership team of LVPEI, and members of the board of Hyderabad Eye Institute, with Mr Sribharat Mathukumilli, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Visakhapatnam as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

Since its inception, the GMRV Campus has steadily expanded both its services and its reach. Its community programs have reached more than 2,000 villages, and education continues to play a central role, with over 1000 training programs offered since the day it was established.
A commemorative film tracing the campus’ journey was played during the celebrations, followed by a presentation by Dr Virender Sachdeva, Campus Head, highlighting the past year’s achievements and outlining a vision for the future. The evening concluded with cultural performances by the LVPEI team.
