It all began when LVPEI@Home was booked for Dr Mahapatra’s son, Mr Asim Mahapatra. What started as a home visit for one family member, soon became a service that the entire Mahapatra family appreciated. Because now, for Dr Anant Mahapatra—renowned theatre pioneer, playwright, director, actor, and the ‘Renaissance Man of Odia Theatre’—quality eye care didn’t require a visit to the hospital. Instead, it arrived at his doorstep through LVPEI@Home.
The LVPEI@Home visit was conducted by our optometrist, Mr Biswajeet Barik, who provided a comprehensive eye examination with the warmth, compassion, and personal attention that defines patient-centric care at LVPEI. For the family, the experience was not only convenient but deeply reassuring.
The team’s professionalism, the thoroughness of the exam, and the ease of receiving comprehensive eye care without travelling to the hospital was what led Dr Mahapatra’s son to request the same service for Dr Mahapatra who is now 90 years old.
Following the LVPEI@Home visit, Dr Mahapatra sent a heartfelt note of appreciation to Dr Avik Kumar Roy, Dr Taraprasad Das, and Mr Ramesh Prasad, thanking the team for making quality eye care more accessible to people in their homes. “I was very satisfied with the home service,” he shared. “I hope it helps a lot of people as Bhubaneswar is expanding. God bless your continued endeavors.”
Dr Mahapatra’s appreciation carries special significance because his association with L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) goes back to the institute’s early years. A close friend of Mr Ramesh Prasad and well acquainted with Mr L V Prasad (Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao), Dr Mahapatra also highlighted why services like these are becoming increasingly important.
Dr Mahapatra observed that many senior citizens in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack who live independently, often away from their children, might find it challenging to travel to a hospital for routine eye care. In such situations, eye care at home offers not only convenience but also reassurance, enabling the elderly to receive expert care in familiar surroundings.
So impressed was he by the experience that he immediately recommended LVPEI@Home to friends and acquaintances, convinced that many more elderly people would benefit from the initiative.
As India’s elderly population continues to grow, healthcare that reaches patients where they are becomes increasingly important.
