L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) conducted a Cornea Preceptorship Program on June 28, 2026 at its Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus in Bhubaneswar. The program brought together faculty members and fellows for a unique learning experience centred around innovation, collaboration, and skill-building.

Built on the concept of bidirectional learning and teaching, the program encouraged knowledge-sharing between the participants, while strengthening essential academic and clinical skills relevant to modern ophthalmic practices.

Participants received:

  • hands-on training in editing surgical videos
  • explored the use of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms to create presentations
  • learned to use the Mendeley system for reference management.

An online session with Dr John Davis Akkara from Cochin introduced participants to the growing role of smartphones in ophthalmology, with a focus on capturing high-quality clinical photographs without specialized slit lamps – which is a particularly valuable skill for clinicians working in secondary eye care centres and documentation during examinations under anesthesia.

With initiatives like these, LVPEI continues to strengthen its commitment to capacity building, innovations in ophthalmic education, and advancing excellence in eye care training.
